Why is it that Perfume is used everyday within all countries, cultures and religions all over the world? Why is it that perfume is best when used on the pulse points in order to achieve the maximum impact so that others can smell it better? And what are the reasons why Perfume has been around since the second millenium BC? It wasn't to repel but to attract, meaning in some way or other sex and perfume belong together...
1. Practising the Past: Sex and the Sense of Smell
The classical Greek Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, was known to bathe herself in Rose petals before taking a lover, and today Rose is still one of the most common ingredients in Perfume. The sense of smell was also used as a basic principle in the Kama Sutra (it wasn't about all the frightfully gymnastic positions we see today). It was needed for adornment, enhancing sexual desire and creating powerful atmospheres using fragrances, oils and lotions. Just like dabbing your perfume on the neck, ankles and a spray to the air when hosting your date, dinner for two!
2. The Right Perfume Gravitates the Right Mate
As humans we still have animal instincts, and whilst physical attractiveness is still at the top of the list for initial pairing, many studies have shown that also the smell of a potential mate increases sexual appeal. As we dab our favourite Perfume onto our pulsating points, the Fragrance is stronger and every stranger, pers
3. Perfume Makes us Feel Sexy
We all know, or at least i hope, that a spray of Perfume won't make you look like one of the models in an advertising campaign. Your favourite perfume does make you feel more confident, happier and sexier. I wonder how many women have have forgotten to put Perfume on before a night out, or even a date and felt less self assured? When we feel confident it is conveyed to others, and confidence oozes sex appeal for men and women alike.
4. Sex Sells Perfume and Perfume Sells Sex
Sexuality is one of the strongest tools within marketing, in particular advertiseing. We are more often than not, drawn to bare flesh, couples in locked embraces , and sultry poses looking right at us from the poster at the bus stop. Most fragrances are advertised through the medium of sex. Generally speaking, Sex is a common interest amongst us all. When Perfume and sex merge it holds our interest for a longer time and one feels the desire for owning it.
5. Visionary, Powerful Images Allow us to See Idols and Icons in a Sexy way
David Beckham wrapped lying in his bed draped in crisp white sheets, Kate Moss lying naked and vulnerable for Calvin klein, and recently Keira Knightley baring all for Coco Mademoiselle is exciting to see, as they are icons, idols and stars. Just as with most of the fragrances around, the models bodies are their to tempt us, to make us want to step into a fantasy world when we spray a particular perfume. Personally, it is a super powerful visual effect when I see such sexy displays promoting a perfume, and I don't want it to change.
