Upon recently celebrating its 30th anniversary, Opium (released in the hippy, mind tripping days of 1977) is still the hedonistic, erotic, feminine substance we all know from Yves Saint Laurent. Most men love it, and although its a little too sexy for teens it appeals to all women of all ages. Yves Saint Laurent describes it as "A fruity and aromatic opening. A floral, voluptuous and spicy character." Very clever, because of course, all us women are like that; sweet, spicy and sexy! Although its a floral fragrance, (usually for the  daytime) Opium can be used at any time, although personally i think its more of a "special" moments fragrance.

The perfume caused great controversy in October and November 2000 with their advertising campaign. Sophie Dahl, (the once voluptuous model who has now bored us all by going down the "size zero" road)  was lying on her back wearing only a pair of stiletto heels, it was said to be too sexual by the public (yawn!)... but isn't that what Opium is all about? When I have smelt it, I feel a mythical, magical and even a little dreamy...
