Created in 1921, Chanel No.5 was a perfume of another five siblings, but was the one whom had the greatest success. No.5 was also the first perfume to heavily rely on synthetic floral aldehydes as a top note, why do such a thing? All for the women of course, because the artificial perfume would make the woman's natural beauty shine through! "I want to give women an artificial perfume," said Chanel. "Yes, I really do mean artificial, like a dress, something that has been made. I don't want any rose or lily of the valley, I want a perfume that is a composition."

Maybe I am too young to understand the word "taste", but I have tried it on my skin and it doesn't seem to fit, it doesn't match. (I feel too grown up, too overdressed!) I was disheartened not to yearn for the scent as I had so many illusions about it. (Especially after seeing the multi million dollar commercial di
rected by Baz Luhrman, "Chanel No.5 The Film".)

I think the perfume is for women with power, women with experience, women who have an eye for tasteful things. When looking at the advertisements from past and present, the spokesmodels are all elegant, glamourous timeless beauties (Including Carole Bouquet, Estelle warren and Nicole Kidman). What does this say about the perfume? Chanel No.5 certainly isn't for the moment like so many of the perfumes out there today, its forever.

Its top notes include ylang ylang, neroli and aldehydes; its mid notes rose and jasmine; and its base notes sandalwood, vetiver and vanilla.
